Thomas M. Hyndman Memorial Golf Scholarship

              

Thomas M. Hyndman (1922-1943) earned varsity letters in baseball, basketball, football, and golf at Abington high school where he was the class president.  He was a 3-time winner of the Philadelphia Interscholastic Golf Championship. Tom was the younger brother of 9 time Master’s participant and 5 time Walker Cup member Bill Hyndman III.  

After graduating high school, he signed a major league baseball contract as a pitcher with the Philadelphia Athletics.  He then volunteered for service as a pilot in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. Tom perished just two weeks before graduating from flight school.

TFTGP Scholarship Opportunity: The Thomas M. Hyndman Scholarship is available annually to active TFTGP participants who have the interest and desire to become competitive golfers.  Successful applicants will receive a minimum of 8 hours of golf instruction during the summer by a Jack Connelly, PGA Professional, at North Hills Country Club in Oreland, Pa.  Jack was elected to the PGA Hall of Fame.

Applicants must have completed at least one TFT 4 week session within the past year.  

Applicants will be required to submit an essay to the Selection Committee on why you desire the scholarship and how you will utilize the opportunity.  The applicant will include what The First Tee means to them and how the organization has positively impacted their life.  Successful applicants will be required to play 10 rounds of golf at Walnut Lane GC to establish a USGA handicap and play in one Philadelphia Junior Tour golf event (all fees covered by scholarship).  Scholarship winners will submit to TFT at the end of the season a written summary of how this experience benefitted them.
