Expanding Access & Opportunity at John F. Byrne Golf Club

Building the Future of Youth Development in Northeast Philadelphia

Since assuming operations of John F. Byrne Golf Club in 2019, First Tee — Greater Philadelphia has transformed the facility into a vibrant community asset that provides affordable golf, youth development opportunities, and access to the game for thousands of people each year.

Today, Byrne serves as a home for First Tee programming, local schools, community organizations, high school golf teams, and public golfers from across the region. As demand for our programs continues to grow, we have an opportunity to build on that momentum and create a year-round facility that allows even more young people to learn, grow, and thrive.

The John F. Byrne Phase Two Renovation will create a new 7,800-square-foot Learning Center designed specifically for youth development, golf instruction, mentorship, and life skills programming.

Why Now?

More schools, community partners, and families are turning to First Tee to provide the positive, developmental experiences that help shape a young person’s future. Yet our current facility can no longer meet the need. Students lack dedicated practice and learning space, winter programming is constrained, and growing waitlists mean too many young people in Northeast Philadelphia are unable to access our programs. With groundbreaking planned for fall 2026 and completion in 2027, now is the moment to invest.

Expand Program Capacity

A new Learning Center featuring four golf simulators, an indoor putting green, and flexible classrooms will allow us to serve 500 additional students annually while strengthening year-round engagement.

Increase Access

Expanded Access 2 Golf programming will bring 10 new outreach programs to John F. Byrne Golf Club, connecting more young people to the game and creating a more inclusive pathway into golf.

Enhance Safety

Dedicated student-only spaces, separate entrances, indoor classrooms, and practice areas will create a safer learning environment where young people feel welcome, supported, and able to focus on growth.

Support Future Growth

Renovated office and volunteer space will provide the infrastructure necessary to support continued program expansion and deliver high-quality experiences for students and families.

“First Tee has provided me with so many opportunities. Byrne is where I first learned to play, gave me my first job, and helped me become a caddie. I am excited for the additional space to improve my game and give more kids the opportunity to play.” – Hank C., First Tee Student
