Reverend Dr. Herb Lusk, II – First Tee Academic Scholarship

Please note that applications for the 2022-2023 school year are closed. We look forward to opening the process for the 2023-2024 school year in the fall of 2022!

The Herb Lusk First Tee Academic Scholarship is awarded annually to one or more First Tee students. It is an academic scholarship to attend the Roman Catholic High School. The student may or may not attend the Greater Exodus Church but applicants should possess the desire for secondary education and hope to return to the area so they can serve in the community. The student must demonstrate exceptional merit, citizenship, academic achievement, as well as service and commitment to the mission of First Tee!

The Herb Lusk Academic Scholarship was initiated by friends of Reverend Lusk to honor this great community leader, to help inspire our next generation of students, and to give back to the local community. Reverend Lusk’s desire to break the cycle of poverty has been one of his life’s missions and the intent for this scholarship is to support that important mission.

Reverend Herbert H. Lusk, II is a former American football running back who played for three seasons in the National Football League for the Philadelphia Eagles. He played college football at Long Beach State & Monterey Peninsula College and was then drafted by the Eagles. Herb Lusk is believed to be the first NFL player to kneel in the endzone after a touchdown.

Reverend Dr. Herb Lusk, II is the pastor of the Greater Exodus Baptist Church which serves over 2,000 members in Philadelphia. Rev. Lusk is also the founder of the People For People organization whose goal is to break the vicious, generational cycle of poverty in the lives of economically-challenged residents of Philadelphia by providing positive alternatives to drugs, crime and welfare dependency.
